Its super old tech. I worked for a cable company that had 900mhz 2.4hgz 5.8ghz and a few licenced bands about 2.5ghz. You should check out Microtek get intouch with them for some of your networkings solutions. We were doing some testing for them almost 10 years ago on unlicensed bands around 3.5ghz that the fcc opened for free use. Someone from your team wanna talk about it hit me up.

Linus, you should do a video on WISP and CO-OP wireless sharing using cheap hardware and opensource software, Im finding it very easy to do with even used Mikrotik antenna's and running Pfsense on a vm, its quite amazing "to me at least" of what you can do with pfsense and buying used antenna's on ebay, I have under $100 in a wireless bridge that can cover a 9 mile radius, most expensive part is getting the height. a good tower will cost you. I just watched the Ubiquiti videos and was good about the difficulties to overcome with doing this lol

Used to do very similar setups in the military. For easier pointing, use a GPS at each location, plot coordinates on a map, draw a line from pt A to pt B, use a protractor for the azimuth, then convert to magnetic azimuth based on your map, point antenna with a compass. Use your elevations to calculate the angle of the dish. Done.

I set up a 14.5 mile bridge from downtown Lexington, KY to a tower just across the Kentucky River towards Richmond. Google maps says it is 14.52 miles, but it's give or take. 5.4 GHz with 4 degree directional antennas. The world record is around 40 miles, but they used hot air balloons or something.

Hey tons of that stuff going on all over the US too. I recently went to FL and seen a LOT of Ubiquiti looking equipment. Every mile or so of interstate in Georgia and FL had a security camera and most had a Yaggi antenna or some sort of antenna on it. I recently did a favor and looked up Wireless internet for someone in the UP of MI. There's a company that appears to use Ubiquiti. I'm telling you there's stuff all over just gotta look for it. I live in a city of about 200k and there's at least 3 Companies that use wireless equipment to serve customers.

Such incompetence is hard to sit and watch...... To pan 2.4 meter dish narrow beam links over 30 km's was done by simply set both sides vertical alignment to horizontal of terrain, i.e. aim to the horizon. The align the horizontal by simple prior planning of bearings, set to direction by use of handheld compass or download any compass app...... If one bearing is 90deg the other will be 180 more, thus 270deg. Switch one, it'll work right away..... just optimise... one direction at each side at a time... We use to optimise 30km links in 10 minutes... taking 2 days for such wide beam dishes is ridiculous......

Don’t worry too much about fog or very lite snow. However, rain & trees will be your potential nemesis (not too mention columns of warm moist rising air). Also remember to make provision for the fresnel effect. And for every reflection in, near, or around your RF path will add 90 degrees offset to final polarization. Accounting for fresnel effect is your friend in this endeavor. Long distance microwave links is my main source of income (depending on season). Accounting for these things will save all your effort. Also, clear line of sight VISUALLY, does not mean the same for your signal. Last year I completed a 37 mile link on 0.5watts either direction 280 Mb stable, bursts of near 600 Mb. Both collectors at .75 meter diameter. Believe it or not, that tower in the path of you final link will add some mid-path issues. Not a big fan of Ubiquity, but the stuff works. Cheers
